چکیده
Abstract Rotating machinery supported on journal bearings is affected by forces due to rotating unbalance and pressure gradients in the oil film. The interaction of these can evoke nonlinear behaviour, including asynchronous motion even chaos. This work attempts characterise sub-synchronous rigid rotor cylindrical abovementioned interaction. analysis focuses behaviour at speeds lower than threshold speed for whirl, associated with vibration magnitude equaling bearing clearance. It shown that occur well before reaching underlying period-doubling bifurcation depends amount unbalance. response stability are analysed using a numerical continuation method employing infinitely short model. Continuation results further validated time simulations which utilise finite difference compute hydrodynamic forces. validation process employs diagrams, Poincaré sections estimates largest Lyapunov exponents.

Thermohydrodynamic Characteristics of Journal Bearings Running under Turbulent Condition
A thermohydrodynamic (THD) analysis of turbulent flow in journal bearings is presented based on the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques. The bearing has infinite length and operates under incompressible and steady conditions. In this analysis, the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations with the equations governing the kinetic energy of turbulence and the dissipation rate, couple...
متن کاملAnalysis of Cylindrical Granular Material Silos under Seismic Excitation
Silos generally work as storage structures between supply and demand for various goods, and their structural safety has long been of interest to the civil engineering profession. This is especially true for dynamically loaded silos, e.g., in case of seismic excitation. Particularly thin-walled cylindrical silos are highly vulnerable to seismic induced pressures, which can cause critical bucklin...
متن کاملDesign Of Journal Bearings In Reciprocating Compressors
Journal bearings in hermetic reciprocating compressors are analyzed experimentally as well as numerically. The motor current and the load applied to the bearing are measured to obtain the performance curve of the journal bearing, from which the critical Sommerfeld number is derived. In the numerical analysis, the Reynolds equation and equilibrium equations of the journal center are solved simul...
متن کاملFlow through the Grooves of Journal Bearings
A simple analysis of fully-developed Stokes ow in grooved bearings is performed that does not use lubrication scaling arguments as in Muijderman (1966). When the inertial terms are ignored, the Navier{Stokes equations decouple. The ow through the groove is then determined from a Poisson equation for the only component of velocity that contributes to the ow through the bearing. This velocity is ...
متن کاملOn the Characteristics of Misaligned Journal Bearings
Journal bearing misalignment arise generally from the shaft deformation under load, deflection of the shaft, manufacturing and assembly errors, improper installation, and asymmetric loading. During operations, misalignment has a considerable effect on the static and dynamic performances. It could cause wear, vibration and even system failure. In this article, a literature review of misalignment...
